Dry eye, also known as ocular surface disease, can develop for many reasons, including heavy screen use, aging, medications, and various health or autoimmune conditions such as Sjögren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. Common symptoms include irritation, burning, excessive tearing, fluctuating vision, redness, and a gritty or sandy sensation.

When left untreated, dry eye can worsen over time and may damage the surface of the eye, affecting both comfort and vision.

Treatment depends on the underlying cause and severity of the condition. Although dry eye is often a chronic condition, the right treatment plan can significantly reduce symptoms and improve eye health. During your visit, we will evaluate your eyes and recommend options tailored to your specific needs. Our practice is proud to be one of the few in San Diego county that performs advanced dry eye treatments such as OptiLight intense pulsed light, as well as OptiLift radiofrequency treatments.
